Getting your website ranked higher in search engines is not an easy task, in fact the more I learn about it, the more I realize that it is a science and if done properly, can take hours and hours per month to keep current on the ins and outs of Google, Bing and other popular search engines. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) involves everything from having well written content on your site to learning about metadata, keywords and cross linking . That being said, I have put together 5 simple ways that you, as a website owner, can increase traffic to your website, which in turn gets your site ranked higher.
1. Print your website address on everything!
Always include your website address also referred to as URL on any print material that is done for your business. If you produce a sales brochure or pamphlet, it better include your website. And don’t forget to include it on business cards, letterhead and invoices. Signage on vehicles or highway signage should always include your website address. Stretch your advertising dollars and remember to put it on everything!
2. Your email signature should always include your website address.
Have it automatically attached to all of your outgoing emails. It takes only a few seconds to create an email signature and it may bring in visitors to your site every day.
3. Join discussion groups or forums
Another online traffic builder is to join online forums or discussion groups. Share your URL where appropriate. If you are an expert in your field, use this forum to drive traffic to your website. For example if you sell vintage outboard motors and marine parts like northernlakesmarine.net, it would be a good idea to join online forums that have the same interests and offer your expertise in the discussion threads. Be mindful to not just be there to make a sale rather to share your knowledge. The sales will eventually come.
4. Social Networking
Using social networking to drive traffic to your website is a really good idea. If you haven’t done so, create a profile page for your business on social network sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Google+. It is absolutely free to create the profile pages, and you can start posting interesting tidbits about your business or organization. Social media is all about relationship building. For instance you don’t need to post advertising nor do you need to sell your products on Facebook or Twitter, however you might want to post pictures of you and your staff taking part in a local fundraiser. This shows that you are engaged in your community – thus building strong customer relations.
5. Use email
A customized email is a simple, inexpensive and effective way to grow your traffic. Having a subscribe button on your website to gather email addresses is a good idea. Then put together a regular e-newsletter or just an email that includes interesting lists, trivia, tips or anything that your readers can digest quickly – remember to keep it short and to the point and don’t forget to include a link to your website for more information.
