First of all what is a twitter hashtag?
The # symbol, is called a hashtag. It is used for creating a topic or to mark a keyword in a ‘Tweet’. To use it place it in front of the word you would like to be used for your purpose when creating a new hashtag, or in a search when looking for a topic that has been assigned a hashtag, for example #hashtag.
Twitter users, yes you if you have a twitter account, can categorize or follow any topic on Twitter with a hashtag. If you haven’t seen a hashtag by now posted in the media, on commercials or anywhere in the world you haven’t been paying attention! Recently a young child in the US was named Hashtag! To search a hashtag, just log in to your twitter account and type the hashtag in the search box at the top, all tweets with that hashtag will be posted below! See image.
Ok so now you know what a hashtag is (getting tired of the word hashtag in this article yet?) why would you want to include a chat for a hashtag on your website?
Reasons to display a hashtag chat (hashtag results display) on your website:
- Customer, Clients, Users and Reader involvement! You will generate interest and interaction with your audience. I for one am always excited at the possibility to be involved with the topic, ideas, activities or businesses/organizations in my life. Facebook commenting should be enough of an example to prove this point, even if you have never posted a comment online anywhere, I am certain you have read one!
- Makes it easy for your audience/organization members to follow the latest updates. It will keep everyone coming back to your site to see what the latest news is.
- Ease of use, once it is in place it’s as simple as creating a tweet with your #(insert topic) into a tweet and it shows up nearly immediately on your website.
Here’s an example of how a hashtag chat can be used on your website
Below you will find a topic just created for this article and it’s results or chat for the hashtag I have just created called #hashtagchats
[twitter_hashtag hash=”hashtagchats” number=”5″ title=”Hashtag Chat!”]
The above tweet display is implemented using a WordPress Plugin called Twitter Hashtag-based Conversation. However there are many other ways to accomplish this to meet your needs. If you’d like to see it in action, tweet using the hashtag #hashtagchats, wait a few minutes, and refresh the page. You will now see your tweet posted on our website!
